"Slam Dunk The Junk" is an initiative that incentivizes nonprofits to participate in a citywide cleanup day in return for a $300 donation to their organization via Hackensack's $60,000 Clean Communities Grant.

The event will be held twice this year on April 30 and October 29.

Any nonprofit organization with at least four volunteers can come to 102 State Street at 9 a.m. on April 30 for a free breakfast. Afterwards, they will be given t-shirts, gloves, trash bags and pickup sticks and be sent to an area of the city to help clean.

At noon, volunteers will be provided with a free lunch.

"This is a great fundraising opportunity for nonprofits and also a great way to help the city," Hackensack Department of Cultural Arts Director Greg Liosi told Daily Voice.

Volunteers not affiliated with a nonprofit organization are welcome to participate as well.
